The Challenge:
We know how important the transition period is for young people during each school year group, in order for learners to confidently move forward into a new school or advance into a new period of learning. This transition period has never been more important after the recent year of disruption in education. In a bid to provide catch up learning, Learn by Design are pleased to be able to continue to offer packages of summer camp provision to schools across the region.
Summer transition camps of the following benefits for learners:
Help learners build unique interests.
Activities enables learners time with their peers and promote Friendship-building.
Allows for a deep dive into new skills.
Helps disconnect from technology.
Helps mental stimulation and physical activity.
Builds confidence and stability within their school surroundings.
Summer transition sessions allows time for creativity to flourish.
Prevents summer learning loss.
Provides a safe place for fun activities.
The Solution:
As a result, we once again designed an action-packed summer camp experience for 2021 young people and Landau Forte QEMS, as well as other schools across the Midlands, took up the opportunity for us to engage their students. 35 QEMS year 9 students took part in a week’s long activities.

Fit For Life Sessions:
The Fit For Life sessions are designed to fully immerse the students in actively learning how to measure and test fitness levels. Using fitness testing equipment including strength Dynameters, the students complete a range of activities and record their results. Balance boards and grip strength tests provided the opportunity to challenge each other and proved to be enjoyed by the whole group.

Career Ambassadors:
We had the pleasure of welcoming Design Engineer Aimee Salt to the sessions, as a career ambassador. Aimee shared her experience and knowledge surrounding the work Vanti is doing to increase sustainability within the built environment. Students explored how their own experiences can shape the future of our planet by taking part in a variety of sustainability tasks.

Biology of the Brain session:
This session saw the group split into two teams and take part in a quick fire round of Biology of the Brain questions. The session ended with the teams taking part in a challenge to correctly assemble elements of a brain, using a medical prop, which the students loved!

" Some of the young people here, taking part, would not mix in a social capacity during normal school hours and the summer camp has delivered a real opportunity for them to make connections and interact with others during this week of summer camp activities. We are really proud of the engagement they have all shown throughout all of the activities. The broad learning content of the sessions has provided a valuable summer holiday time experience for our students."
