"Random Acts of Kindness" brings joy in East London thanks to NCS Changemakers.

Barking & Dagenham, Redbridge, and Havering Changemakers:

Learn by Design’s Barking & Dagenham, Redbridge, and Havering Changemakers finally got their chance to deliver their social action project in February.

Their initial plan was to run a campaign in December to support mental health and homelessness in their local area during the Christmas period, however, with the rise of Omicron cases, they had to put their plans on hold, and postpone the event to 2022.

The group reconvened in January to explore a new project to deliver, as Christmas and New Years was a central theme to their initial idea, it was no longer relevant to run. So, work started again to look at the possibilities on the theme of Valentines Day and Random Acts of Kindness Day, and so the team decided to write positive messages in Valentines Day cards, that also promotes others to do their own random act of kindness towards others, and hand them out in red paper bags, with Lindt chocolate truffles, a rose, and a small teddy bear with “Love” written on its’ scarf as an ode to Valentine’s Day.

They went to one of the more social-economically deprived areas in East London- Dagenham, to hand these hampers out, identifying the need to spread more joy and happiness in that space. They went around the community, bracing a couple of gusts from Storm Eunice, and braved some rain showers too, to make sure the local people had a smile on their face, and something to remember a time where they were approached by a random person whilst they were going about their day with a little gift they can cherish. Small acts of kindness can have a huge positive impact on someone’s day!
