Wiltshire HAF summer camp entertaining young people during the holidays.

Updated: Aug 25, 2021

Hundreds of Pupil Premium young people are being kept entertained throughout the summer holidays thanks to the wealth of activities delivered across Wiltshire as part of the Holiday Food and Activity programme FUEL.

Funding:

Thanks to funding made available to Wiltshire Council by the Department of Education (DofE), Learn by Design have been contracted to manage and deliver the Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) programme in the county. As the activity provider we have designed an action-packed, face to face activity provision across 10 Wiltshire regions. The holiday club places have been made available for FREE, to Pupil Premium young people and are 4 hours a day, 4 days a week for four weeks during the 2021 summer holidays and one week during the 2021 Christmas holidays.

Regions include:

  • Amesbury – Amesbury Archer Primary School

  • Calne – Kingsbury Green Academy

  • Chippenham – Hardenhuish School

  • Devizes – Devizes Leisure Centre https://www.devizesconservatives.com/news/young-people-fuel-during-summer-holidays

Activities:

Participants are currently enjoying a variety of high-quality activities whilst attending the camp, branded under the name FUEL. The summer camp activities include, a range of enriching hands-on experiences such as arts and crafts, multi-sports, dance, drumming workshops, zorb football, silent disco, a climbing tower and fun healthy eating workshops. As part of this programme, all participants have been receiving a nutritious meal on each day they attend the programme. Wiltshire Council partnered with Phunky Foods a food provider to produce and distribute hot meals to children attending the activity camps.

  • DRUMMING WORKSHOP: Aaron Meli of Slappingskins has developed a unique African percussion workshop

  • BUBBLE FOOTBALL: Jamie from Leap of Faith came and introduced young people to giant inflatable balls. A great laugh with lots of bouncing and bumping!

  • CLIMBING WALL: Mobile Climbing Warehouse - largest mobile climbing wall operator in the UK

  • SILENT DISCO: Young people had the chance to dance the session away using LED silent headphones and transmitters thanks to https://silentdiscoparty.uk/

  • LASER TAG: has been seeing young people dash around a camouflage camp with laser tags in this tremendous challenge of speed and agility.

  • OLYMPIAN TALKS: Olympian athletes made visits to sites across the region to share experiences of success and resilience in a drive to promote motivation skills.

  • ARTS AND CRAFTS: Numerous activities including badge making have been encouraging children to get creative.

Feedback:

“I’ve enjoyed spending time with my friends and doing all the activities. My favourite has been the bubble football! I loved jumping through the middle of the ball. I think all my friends should be coming to the summer camp.”
