Endless STEM inspiration brought to students in Corby

Date: November 1st Venue: Rockingham Motor Speedway Audience: Girls Year 10/11 Partners: University of Northampton Pathways NCOP The Big Bang Fair

Challenge:

Encouraging Year 10/11 girls into STEAM-based Higher Education choices at Women in STEAM Rockingham 2018. Creating an event that enables young people to explore The Digital Landscape and raise student awareness of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and maths learning which can lead to a #STEM career.

The Result:

Working on behalf of Pathways NCOP , The Big Bang Women in STEAM (Science, technology, engineering, arts and maths) event was a day filled with endless inspiration for the young girls whom attended; from learning the history and the journeys of female scientists, (Dr Becky Smethurst, Sarah Cosgriff) to making their own functioning karts with Max Velocity.

The young girls on the day had really taken the opportunities to understand and learn about the different career paths that are available for them in STEAM. Whilst the Detective project left the young learners fascinated with the real-ness of crimes and wanting to become detectives themselves, other workshops left some of the groups dazzled by the beauty of astronomy and space.

Our Learn by Design team were exhibiting various workshops which were intriguing for them and for other exhibitors, especially the puzzling tanagrams and mind-blowing mini science experiments!

Overall the Women in STEAM event by Big Bang succeeded their expectations and goals; inspiring young girls into STEAM.
